Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Welds together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc welding equipment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures

  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements

  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)

  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

  • Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces

  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)

  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps

  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws

  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Welding certification preferred

  • Ability to perform ARC Welding, Brazing, and Cutting Tasks

  • Knowledge in the use of cutting torch and plasma cutter/grinding

  • Must be able to pass test for G3 and Rebar

  • Be qualified (or able to be qualified) in GMAW or certified AWS D1.1 and/or D1.4

  • Must be able to read and understand tickets and drawings

  • Must be able to read roller tape

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, occasionally.

  • Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.

  • Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Constant and continual medium to heavy manual physical labor is required for this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements.

  • Moderate to high risk of safety precautions.

  • Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
