St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for the position of Upper School French Teacher (One Semester Leave Replacement).

Position Begins: January 2026

Status: Full-time, Exempt, Long-Term Substitute
Department: Instructional Faculty, Upper School
Salary Range: $22,500 - $29,115

Position Summary

This is a one-semester, full-time appointment open to applicants with the knowledge, experience, and desire to teach French, including French III and French IV, with students ranging from grades 8-12.

Candidates should have experience teaching French in a student-centered classroom. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating engaging, age-appropriate units that represent diverse viewpoints and guide students toward success through clearly stated learning standards. We expect both the teacher and students to maintain a high level of immersion, using the target language 90-100% of the time.

The successful candidate will also serve as an advisor to a group of 8 students. They will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teach four sections of Upper School French 3 & 4 (section size ranges from 10-15 students)
  • Collaborate with other French teachers & World Language Department
  • Lead an advisory group of 8 students
  • Attend department, faculty, teaching team, and grade-level advisor meetings
  • Participate in professional development programming
  • Produce timely and thorough feedback and evaluation of student work
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents
  • Maintain and report grades accurately and in a timely way
  • Participate in grade-level retreats and other chaperoning responsibilities as assigned
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA in French or a related field
  • Experience teaching or other substantial work with adolescents
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to developing and practicing cultural competence in their work
  • Support for SPA’s mission and for the vision of the Upper School
  • Eagerness to join a collaborative department and teaching team
