The Reasoning Foundations Team builds horizontal technology that has an extremely broad impact across the Waymo organization. You will have impact on scaling our Waymo Driver's performance as Waymo expands to more cities. We have a wide reaching impact into both onboard and off-board system architecture, paving the way for future-looking deep-learning-based explorations.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager.

You will:

• Develop foundational frameworks and software architectures that enable advancement of the Waymo Driver's capabilities.
• Identify and improve core APIs
• Work cross-functionally, ranging from evaluations to novel deep learning applications.
• Improve the reliability of the stack and ensure efficient execution of onboard algorithms.

You have:

• BS in Computer Science, Robotics, or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of Software Engineering experience, demonstrated proficiency with optimizing runtime C++ code
• Hands-on experience designing scalable software architectures for complex systems
• Experience debugging and improving live, production systems
• Fluency in data-driven development

We prefer:

• Experience building data pipelines
• Experience improving developer workflows - identifying and improving inefficiencies and establishing strategies for common use cases
• Experience in self-driving/related robotics domains

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. $158,000 - $200,000 USD Waymo
