Berkshire Community College (BCC) has the distinction of being the first community college established in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Education faculty and the Dean of Humanities, Behavioral, and Social Sciences, the Paraprofessional Cohort Mentor will provide support and guidance as students complete the para-professional program pathway at BCC. The Mentor will meet with students on a regular basis to further support the implementation of knowledge and best practices learned in the classroom and to support students in various areas, including but not limited to: providing guidance for their work in the field; sharing educational strategies and best practices in Education; assisting students as they navigate the higher education system including coursework requirements; tutoring students in education content as related to their current courses; and assisting students in developing executive functioning strategies and skills to manage personal, professional and academic requirements.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in early childhood, elementary or secondary education or a related field; OR a specialty degree outside the field of early childhood, elementary and secondary education that directly relates to the subject matter being addressed. In addition to the above, all the following qualifications are required.

* Minimum of 3 years experience in teaching and/or administration of an education program;

* Minimum of 2 years experience related to the professional development area being addressed;

* Minimum of 2 years experience providing consultation, training, and/or mentoring;

* Demonstrated ability to use developmentally appropriate practices and to implement adult learning strategies;

* Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development across all domains including individualization to meet the needs of children with a wide range of needs and abilities;

* Demonstrated knowledge of DESE initiatives such as MTELs, PSTs, learning standards, culturally responsive teaching and leading LMS and remote learning resources, and early literacy;

* Demonstrated ability to adapt strategies and resources to the student's learning style, culture, language, needs and preferences;

* Demonstrated ability to develop IPDPs with educators and programs that include goals, outcomes and strategies and adhere to it;

* Regular assessment of training or mentor session outcomes including the use of participant feedback; Developpartnerships with outside organizations and educational partners, such as MCLA;

* Arrange to visit local schools to meet with potential students about the para pathway and assist in applying to the college; schedule virtual information sessions for recruitment of prospective students;

* Advise students on campus and community resources and services;

* Help to build enrollment for the pathway through tabling events, on-site recruitment and virtual information sessions;

* Attend classes on occasion with students and collaboration with faculty;

* Manage data management and maintain the resource page;
