Purpose of Position

Our package handlers are our front-line employees and a very important part of GLS. They work diligently to sort and make sure packages are in the correct route, to ensure proper delivery timelines. They work closely as a team to make sure all the behind the scenes work is done safely and successfully, no day is the same. We are looking to expand our team with people that care about safety, quality and work at a fast pace.

Essential Job Functions

Scan and/or sort packages, load and unload trucks. Operate equipment such as forklift and pallet jacks. Comply with all warehouse safety rules and guidelines. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Characteristics are relatively stable and frequently wet and/or humid. Maybe exposed to fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat and vibrations. The noise level is usually loud and the exposure risk to hazardous environmental conditions are moderate. Listed below are applicable special environmental conditions.

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time is required.
  • Regularly works in outside weather conditions.

Climbing: Must be able to climb up and down a 3-foot-high ladder over a conveyor. Occasionally (13 – 33%)

Grasping/Feeling: Must have the dexterity to use a keyboard and handheld scanner as job may require. - Regularly (65 – 100%)

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing : Must be able to lift, pull and push up to 75 lbs. - Regularly (65 – 100%)

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills : Ability to speak, read and interpret documents printed in English such as policies and procedures, freight bills, bills of lading, computer reports and printouts, invoices, and work orders. Ability to write in English routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills : Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must have a pleasant, positive personality and the ability to get along well with supervisors, dispatchers, customers, and co-workers. Must project a clean cut, well-groomed appearance always.
