  • Preventative Care: Promote health education and preventive care measures to improve overall inmate health and reduce the risk of communicable diseases.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, physical therapists, and dentists to ensure a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with facility policies and legal requirements.
  • Safety and Security: Adhere to the security protocols and guidelines within the correctional facility to maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.
  • Ethics and Professionalism: Uphold ethical standards and maintain professionalism in all interactions with inmates, colleagues, and facility staff.
  • Continuing Education: Stay updated with the latest developments in correctional medicine, attend training sessions, engage in continuous professional development to enhance medical knowledge and skills, and attend any necessary meetings.

Requirements:

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state where the correctional facility is located.
  • Board Certification as an APP in a relevant speciality is preferred.
  • Previous experience in primary care/internal medicine, urgent care, or correctional medicine is preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly, direct the supporting medical team, and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with inmates, correctional staff, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Some weekends and holidays are required.
  • Shifts will be 7a-7p
