The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. This is a 7 on 7 off night position 9:00pm to 7:00am including every other weekend. Responsibilities include performing accurate and appropriate testing of specimens, evaluating specimen acceptability, investigating problems with specimens, organizing workload, verifying accuracy of results, collecting data on unacceptable specimens, notifying supervisors of variances, handling specimens according to storage requirements, reporting test results timely and according to protocol, documenting notifications for critical values, correcting erroneous results, notifying relevant healthcare providers and authorities about microbiology alerts and reportable diseases, following quality control procedures, performing maintenance and calibration on instruments, troubleshooting problems, adhering to safety and chemical hygiene policies, communicating with the microbiology team, demonstrating competence in assigned work areas, maintaining work area and supplies, participating in orientation and training of new employees, reporting to work on schedule, assisting in relief duties, participating in technology recommendations, and fostering a culture of safety. Minimum education preferred is a baccalaureate degree in relevant science, with one year clinical laboratory internship preferred. Certification or eligibility for Medical Technologist Certification (MTE-ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT-ASCP) is required.
