The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has
two (2) openings for
Information Technology (IT) Interns in our Information Technology Department, located in Lansing, MI.
Position Summary: Job Type: Full-Time Summer Internship Dates: May 12, 2025 - August 08, 2025 Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour. The Information Technology (IT) Intern will collaborate with the IT team to accomplish the required business transformation projects and cyber-security improvements. The IT Interns will focus on developing and applying IT skills using standard software tools (largely Microsoft-based). The Intern will also have opportunities to install and configure network devices, gather data, and perform data analysis.
Essential Functions: - Develop and maintain software, in collaboration with BWL IT developers.
- Configure network devices, in collaboration with BWL IT server and network technicians.
- Perform project coordination tasks, in collaboration with BWL IT PMO. Mitigate cybersecurity risks, as directed.
- Gather data and perform data analysis, as directed.
- Follow defined BWL IT standards and IT industry best practices, as directed.
- Utilizes standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database) and SAP.
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work.
- Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
- Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Specifications: - Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution in a program with a focus of Information Technology with junior or senior status during the summer of 2025.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions: - Employees are required to follow the BWL Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment, adhere to BWL safety rules and regulations, attend all training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL, or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
- Normal office and occasional field work. Field conditions may include heat, cold, dust, and/or noise. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
- Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
