Job Summary: The Department of Information Systems at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Computer Operator/Staff Assistant. The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks in order to optimize the benefit to the organization.
- Operate and control mainframe computers and a variety of peripherals; recognize equipment malfunctions & gross errors & take corrective action.
- Coordinate resolutions of complex technical problems with a variety of applications.
- Maintain incident logs describing the event, timing, root cause and actions taken to resolve.
- Maintain inventory of system and vendor contact information.
- Provide written updates on issues status and next steps to business and IT partners.
- Follow up on incidents to ensure permanent corrective action has been identified
- Operate and troubleshoot server systems. Perform first level troubleshooting. Assist system administrators in troubleshooting and repair. Maintain Datacenter environment and room. Monitor and operate computer consoles. Take corrective actions required by messages. Perform production runs and tasks following instillations procedures fulfilling scheduling priorities.
- Physically perform all tasks requiring standing, stooping, walking for long periods, lifting heavy cartons of paper, replenishing stock, moving equipment and as required to meet instillation needs, distribute reports, prepare materials needed for production runs.
- Deal promptly, effectively and courteously with users; perform help desk function; problem solve user problems and redirect issues to the responsible support areas. Troubleshoot and repair computer and printer equipment.
- Answer incoming calls from the center-wide end users. Route inquires accordingly.
- Deliver daily reports to customers. Generate reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications: - Experience with Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems.
- Experience with a Network monitoring tools (WhatsUP Gold, Solarwinds, etc.).
- Working Knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.
- Outstanding communication skills in the written form, telephone and email.
- Ability to provide support for computer hardware and software.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Z/VM, Z/OS, MVS and TSO.
- Experience with Linux and MacOs.
- Experience with Vwmare, vSphere and Citrix Virtual Apps (XenApp).
- Experience with Microsoft SCCM.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 7:00am to 3:00pm (Full-Time)
Salary Grade/Rank: SL-2
S alary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
