Position Summary Reporting to the Faculty Directors of the Center for Gender and Sexuality Law, the Associate Director manages the Center’s day-to-day operations, finances, and programming. The role of the Associate Director is crucial to ensuring the team has the administrative and programmatic support they need to carry out their projects. A key part of this is keeping track of the Center’s grants and payroll, and cultivating institutional knowledge that bridges the relationship between Law School departments and the Center’s team. Responsibilities Direct the daily administrative operations of the Center for Gender and Sexuality Law and the Law, Rights, and Religion Project (LRRP). This includes project management, program and event planning, and administrative support. Manage the Center’s grants and assist with fundraising efforts, including determining grant eligibility, creating grant budgets, assisting with proposal writing, and reporting to funders. Manage project-specific budgets, vendor invoices and contracts, purchases, and expense tracking. Collaborate with Faculty and the LRRP Director on academic and research projects, as well as related communications campaigns. This includes supervising the work of the Center’s Administrative and Communications Officer. Develop and maintain relationships with Law School and other University departments, student organizations, and partner institutions. Serve as liaison with Columbia Law School’s Business Office, Development team, and the Info Center. Provide administrative support to faculty, including scheduling, preparation of course readers and related copyright permissions, compiling the Center’s annual report, onboarding Research Assistants, and other tasks as needed. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required, as well as interest and/or experience in gender and sexuality policy. Required skills include operations/project management, grant administration, and strong writing and editing skills. Must be highly organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively, and work well under pressure with multiple and changing deadlines. Proficiency with Google Apps is required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed to support events and programming. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies, support an inclusive work environment, and have a strong commitment to gender and racial justice.
